Bruxelles Breakdown

Brussels! An unexpected, yet welcome addition to our travel plans. While Terrence was busy at his conference, I was spending time with three charming Italian businessmen, wreaking havoc in Antwerp. When they asked if we would like to accompany them to the Atomium in Bruxelles for a birthday dinner... I was loath to say no. ( So, I didn't.) They picked us up, whisked us off on the 40 minute drive, and we had a beautiful, unforgettable evening 102 meters in the sky.

The Atomium was built for the 1958 World's Fair in Brussels. It is designed to look like an Iron atom, if it was magnified 165 billion times. The top of the Atomium is a restaurant which looks over the skyline, and has a cool mid-century modern vibe.

It was...wonderful. I don't remember when I've laughed so much or been in better company. Which is one of the things I love about travel... if you open yourself up to experiences, then there is no limit to the adventures you can have.

From the Atomium we went into Brussels proper, where I let my hair down. Literally. It was up on my head, and I was tired of being teased about looking like a I had a mushroom on my head, or a donut. So, we grabbed some Belgian beer(s) and cheers-ed the night away.

xx See you back here Wednesday for some Amsterdam Adventures!
