Excellence is a Habit

This has been on my mind lately. I think about this quote a lot. The full saying is, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit"

Why? Why did I feel the overwhelming need to put this up today? Easy. I needed the reminder myself, and perhaps you did too. Too often we bog ourselves down with negativity. We tell ourselves we aren't "good enough" or "fast enough" or "smart enough" to be defined as something we are striving for.

Take inventory. What are your habits? Are you proud of them? Or not? What are they leading you to become? For me, I run everydamnday. I read everyday, I write everyday, I do yoga nearly every darn day, I cook all of my family's meals from scratch, I listen to my friends problems and make time to communicate mine to them. So, what am I?

I'm a runner, a reader, a writer, a yogi, a chef, a listener, a communicator and friend, a daughter a wife. I am the sum of all of the the actions that I put into the world. It doesn't matter if I'm famous, or if I'm the fastest or bendiest or anything. It just matters that I DO these things. Repeatedly. They make me what I am.

What are you? If you complain every day, you're a complainer. If you whine everyday, you're a whiner. If you skimp on the truth everyday, then you're a liar. And on the flip side, if you help everyday you're a helper, or if you workout everyday you're an athlete, etc. What are the actions that define you? Are they how you want to be represented in the world?

Be something extraordinary. Do it now. Keep doing it.
Namaste y'all xx
