Birthday Girl
Today is my birthday. But, unfortunately it is Monday, and so my celebrations were all this past weekend.
I have always honored the day of my birth, though.
I have never, in my life, even when I was in college and working several jobs, worked on my birthday. I consider it sacred, and so I usually use it to do the things that make me the most happy.
So, today, I will read, and write, and eat cookies and frosting, and wear a pretty dress and sit in the sunshine. Which is pretty much what I do every year, which I think says something about my happiness. The way to my heart is unwavering: just frosting and books and sunshine.
It is also today that I realize that I am unbelievably fortunate. Because my favorite things are not just reserved for my birthday. I generally do them every day, sans frosting. (unfortunately)
So, it is with a swelling heart and a smiling birthday face (no doubt covered in sugar and chocolate) that I leave you with a few of my favorite quotes. (Because it's my birthday and I'll do what I damn well please.)
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.- Antoine De Saint-Exupery
The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.-Jane Austen
So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing-TS Eliot
We turn not older with the years, but newer every day- Emily Dickinson
