Hold Fast to Dreams
|I wonder what the pooch dreams of? I think perhaps treats and belly rubs. Perhaps the occasional wish to wear a sweater one day without becoming inexplicably upset by it.|
Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow.
-Langston Hughes, "Dreams"
Just a little inspiration + motivation for your week. Our lives become so small if we have no dreams to sustain us. Our worth is so depleted when we have nothing to strive for. No matter how impossible or terrifying or small of a chance you think you have of success, try. Please try. I have never wept over someone daring the unknown and coming up short, but I cannot begin to express the sorrow I have felt for someone who told me their loftiest goals, and then gave them up un-tried. So many shattered futures, celebrations and successes that could have been lived.
I dreamed of writing books. And though I am not on a bestseller list, and it takes hardly any time to count the dollars I have earned from my pen, I am successful. I receive notes, emails, messages from people that loved my words. People who read my pages and felt something. That, for me, is riches enough. It is success.
What would you do attempt if you knew you would not fail? What are you waiting for?
